12. Heinz Field (Pittsburgh Steelers)

When the Steelers ditched Three Rivers Stadium, the upgrade they got at Heinz Field was immaculate (pun very much intended). Come at me out all you want, Three Rivers was an eyesore. The bright teal turf made it look like the tint on the TV was set to 100, it was primarily a baseball stadium in its hay day, and it was falling apart.

Heinz Field ditched the ugly astroturf for a much more pleasing medium green field. One thing I do wish they grandfathered over from Three Rivers was the yellow end zones- those ruled.

The design of the stadium isn’t anything over the top, but it is well done, nonetheless. The open mezzanine with one end closed and the other open to overlook downtown Pittsburgh is a sight to see. The stadium often turns into a wind tunnel and is regarded as the worst kicking stadium in football.

That said, every Sunday, it turns into the largest collection of Yinzers in the western hemisphere, ready and waiting to watch their Steelers chase another Lombardi Trophy. A lot of what makes a good stadium is the atmosphere, and there aren’t many places like Heinz Field in January.
