Noah Syndergaard wanted to return to Mets, but the front office ghosted him

Noah Syndergaard wanted to make his way back to Flushing for next season, but apparently the front office didn’t make him a priority whatsoever. 

New York Mets fans still can’t believe that Noah Syndergaard will no longer be taking the bump for the team. When the news broke that he had signed with the Los Angeles Angels earlier this week, people were quick to attack him. Even the major newspapers in New York City trolled him with some head-turning covers.

Well, what if this wasn’t Syndergaard’s fault? Per the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, the man known as Thor wanted to return to Citi Field, but the team basically ghosted him leading up to the starter bolting for the AL West.

Per Sherman, Syndergaard truly wanted to give things another go with the Mets to try and record a bounce-back campaign in 2022 after his elbow injury sidelined him for virtually all of this past season. However, his contact with the front office was basically non existent for a week.

This opened the door for the Angels to step in and really turn his head with the attention they were giving him. LA was so interested in signing Syndergaard, Sherman is reporting that Angels general manager Perry Minasian flew to New York last Friday to have a dinner with Syndergaard. During that meal, Minasian sold the righty on all the great things the Angels had to offer.

Shortly after that, Syndergaard changed his mind and decided to sign with the Angels on a one-year, $21 million deal. Had the Mets at least put in a bit of effort, it sure seems like Syndergaard would have stayed put in Queens. Instead, New York fans will have to get used to seeing him showcase his talents in a different jersey.
