Did Bryce Young clinch the Heisman with record-breaking outing vs. Arkansas?

Was Bryce Young’s remarkable showing against the Arkansas Razorbacks good enough to secure him this season’s Heisman Trophy?

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young played a thrilling game as he helped carry his team to victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks. Was his dominant demonstration enough to win him the Heisman?

Young set a single-game record for Alabama as he threw for 559 yards against Arkansas. While doing that, Young completed 31-of-40 pass attempts, which means he had a 77.5 percent completion percentage. The talented quarterback also managed to throw five touchdowns against the Razorbacks.

2021 Heisman Race: Did Bryce Young do enough against Arkansas to win the Heisman this season?

While all of that is great and Young has looked remarkable all season, did he do enough to go ahead and claim the Heisman?

Probably not. He might need to do a little more.

It feels like this year’s Heisman Trophy race will go down to the wire with both Young and Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud being the two likely finalists.

While many will want Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral to get more consideration for the Heisman, unfortunately for Corral’s chances, he plays for a very good team and elevates the Rebels, but doesn’t play for a prominent enough team.

Lamar Jackson’s 2016 season is the most recent example of a phenomenal player elevating a non-championship contender enough to win the Heisman.

In recent seasons, the Heisman has gone to a player who has dominated all season long and has also played for a team that could compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Corral has been fascinating to watch, but he doesn’t get the benefit of playing for a team like Alabama or Ohio State. Whether that’s right or wrong is a different discussion, but it will end up hurting his chances a bit.

This particular race will likely be boiled down to Young and Stroud. And with rivalry week upon us, things could get interesting in a hurry.
