What needs to happen for Clemson to make ACC Championship Game
Clemson football has won the ACC championship for six straight seasons but that impressive streak is in jeopardy this year.
Clemson has won the ACC championship every year since 2015 when they snapped a three-year run of the Florida State Seminoles. If they are going to continue the streak they need a few things to fall their way.
Clemson football dug a hole for themselves early in the year with losses to NC State and Pitt to put their ACC title hopes on life support. All hope was not lost for Dabo Swinney’s team after rebounding with wins over Louisville and Florida State to keep their ACC title hopes alive.
Clemson is playing Wake Forest today and needs a win against the one-loss Demon Deacons who have a perfect record in ACC play. Their loss to UNC doesn’t count against their conference record.
If Clemson beats Wake Forest, they’ll stay alive for a berth in the ACC Championship Game but they don’t control their destiny.
How Clemson can make the ACC Championship Game
Clemson leads Wake Forest 17-10 at halftime. They need to win to stay alive.
Then, Clemson needs Boston College to beat Wake Forest next week and have NC State lose to either Syracuse or UNC in the regular-season finale.
NC State could lose to UNC on Black Friday. The Tar Heels are talented but have been wildly inconsistent all year, but are capable of beating NC State.
The toughest one for Clemson is to have Boston College beat Wake Forest. The game will be in Chestnut Hill so the home-field advantage will be beneficial in their upset attempt. Boston College, however, is just 2-4 in ACC play entering Week 12. They are 6-4 overall but have struggled in conference play.
Boston College’s offense will need to play their best game to keep pace with the prolific Wake Forest offense that came into the Clemson game averaging 44.7 points per game, second only to Ohio State in the nation.
Of course, the BC defense will need to come to play too if they hope to pull off an upset. For Clemson football fans and players and coaches alike, they’ll be rooting for Boston College next week.
