The last time Wake Forest beat the Clemson football team, Barack Obama had not been elected President of the United States of America yet.

With an ACC Championship within reach, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons need to find a way to beat the Clemson football team in Death Valley first.

Though these two schools have played annually since the 1950s, Clemson has usually had the upper hand on the college football gridiron. While the Tigers have typically run roughshod over their competition in the ACC Atlantic, the Demon Deacons are having their best season arguably ever. Dave Clawson’s team is thinking New Year’s Six, but they have to beat the Tigers first.

The last time Wake Forest beat Clemson on the football field, Dabo Swinney was not Clemson’s head coach and Barack Obama had yet to be elected as the President of the United States.

Wake Forest: When is the last time the Demon Deacons beat Clemson football?

Entering their 2021 meeting, Clemson has beaten the Demon Deacons 12 times in a row. Given that they play annually in divisional play, that means the last win for Wake Forest came during the 2008 college football season.

On Oct. 10, 2008, quarterback Riley Skinner threw the game-winning touchdown to D.J. Boldin with 5:18 left to secure the 12-7 win on Thursday night over Tommy Bowden’s club.

The No. 21 Demon Deacons improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in ACC under Jim Grobe. As for Clemson, the Tigers made a switch at head coach before their next meeting. As it turns out, Swinney went on to become the best head coach in the history of the Clemson football program and has yet to lose to Wake Forest.

Thus far, Clawson has lost his first seven head-to-head meetings with Swinney on the gridiron.

Could this be the year Wake Forest snaps their losing streak vs. Clemson? According to WynnBET, Clemson is a 4.5-point favorite over the No. 12 Demon Deacons. A win for Wake Forest clinches the ACC Coastal and their berth in the ACC Championship Game.

Kickoff for Saturday’s game is as noon ET from Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina.
