Oklahoma football took care of business against Iowa State. Now the Sooners are positioned for a berth in the Sugar Bowl or better.

After getting by Iowa State, the Oklahoma Sooners are one step closer to the Big 12 title game.

The Sooners will finish the regular season with a game against Oklahoma State next weekend as they work to secure a place in the New Year’s Six Bowls.

Will they be playing on Jan. 1? Could there be an even bigger prize on the table? The college football bowl projections are in.

Oklahoma bowl projections have a consensus on the Sugar Bowl

Right now, Oklahoma looks like the favorite to win the Big 12 and land in the Sugar Bowl against SEC No. 3 Ole Miss. That’s the way CBS SportsUSA Today and Sporting News all see it playing out.

The Sugar Bowl features an SEC vs. Big 12 tie-in, so the game in New Orleans should have a pretty straightforward selection process. Ole Miss is the likeliest opponent with Georgia and Alabama expected to make the playoff.

The bigger question for Oklahoma is whether or not they can dream bigger.

A win over Oklahoma State and a Big 12 Championship could put them into the College Football Playoff discussion. Their back-loaded schedule and relatively strong loss to Baylor would give them a competitive resumé to match up with the likes of Oregon, Cincinnati and Notre Dame.

They may need some help in the end, but a playoff berth is not out of the question just yet. There is still a ton to sort out when it comes to figuring out postseason destinations. The Sooners can only control what they do in the next two games.
