Projected CFP rankings after Ohio State slaughtered Michigan State. Will the College Football Playoff committee may move Ohio State ahead of Oregon now?

The College Football Playoff committee may have a tough decision to make when the next CFP rankings come out on Tuesday.

The committee has already shown head-to-head outcomes aren’t all that important through their first tree rankings and that could lead to Ohio State overtaking Oregon for the No. 3 ranking.

Ohio State slaughtered Michigan State, the committee’s No. 7 team on Saturday, and despite losing at home to Oregon in September, that could see them move up to the No. 3 spot, regardless of what happens in Oregon’s game against Utah.

Getting the No. 3 spot is imperative to avoiding No. 1 Georgia in the first semifinal game who has looked like a juggernaut all season. While the fight for the No. 4 spot always seems to be the one with the most intrigue, this year could see that shift to the No. 3 spot with Ohio State and Oregon in focus.

Projected CFP rankings: Will Ohio State pass Oregon after beating Michigan State?

  1. Georgia
  2. Alabama
  3. Oregon
  4. Ohio State
  5. Cincinnati
  6. Michigan
  7. Notre Dame
  8. Oklahoma State
  9. Baylor
  10. Ole Miss

Ohio State won’t pass Oregon in the CFP rankings this week. But with a win over No. 6 Michigan in Ann Arbor next Saturday, the Buckeyes will get my pick for the No. 3 spot. Beating Michigan State in the manner in which they did coupled with a road win against Michigan is more impressive than what Oregon can do vs.  Utah and Oregon State.

The head-to-head matchup mattered in September-November, but this is a different Ohio State team than the one that lost in Week 2 to the Ducks. If the two teams met this weekend, Ohio State would be a big favorite and win by more than three scores.
