Illinois high school apologizes for students chanting ‘Fire Nagy’

An Illinois high school sent out a letter to parents apologizing for an offensive chant targeting a school parent… Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy. 

Bears fans want Nagy gone.

It seems that Nagy will actually be gone come Thanksgiving Day.

But the worst sting of all comes not from an NFL football field, but a high school one.

Cary-Grove High School issued a letter to parents condemning “a chant targeting the parent of one of the Lake Forest team members and his family.”

Both Brayden and Tate Nagy are listed on Lake Forest’s roster, and both are sons of Bears head coach Matt Nagy.

The chanting was stopped at the game and the “superfans” leading the chant were asked to reflect and correct their behavior, but the school was still adamant in the letter that this should  not happen again.

Those who were at the game clarified that the chant only lasted a few seconds and was quickly silenced for being unsportsmanlike. Plus, these kids are in high school — what excuse did adult Bears fans have for doing the same thing?

It would be difficult for history to repeat itself, as Nagy is expected to be fired after a Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions. The 0-9-1 Lions are one of the few NFL teams performing worse than the 3-7 Bears, but even if Thursday results in a win, the “Fire Nagy” chants are expected to come to fruition.

Perhaps the worst part of it all is that the Lake Forest Scouts didn’t even come close to winning: the Cedar Grove Trojans capped off an undefeated season while holding Lake Forest starters scoreless. The Trojans racked up 509 yards on offense for a 40-7 victory and are headed to the state championship.

Still, the sixth-seeded Lake Forest still made it closer to the championship game than the Bears will anytime soon — even if the Bears do fire Nagy on Thanksgiving.
