Matt Nagy denies rumor that he is going to be fired on Friday
Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy didn’t waste time in denying the reports out there that he’ll be fired later this week.
Is time running out for Matt Nagy as head coach of the Chicago Bears? It sure is feeling that way, especially after Chicago-area journalist Mark Konkol reported on Tuesday that Nagy will be fired after the team’s Thanksgiving contest vs. the Detroit Lions.
As you might have been able to guess, Nagy was asked about this report while speaking to the media and he shot things down. Per Nagy, this is all news to him and he hasn’t been informed that his days with the Bears are about to come to a close.
Matt Nagy shot down the report that he’ll be fired by the Bears this week
“That is not accurate,” Nagy said of Konkol’s report that he’ll be canned. “I have great communication with ownership, with George (McCaskey) and Ted (Phillips) and Ryan (Pace) but I have not had any discussions.”
So, if you ask Nagy, his focus is 100 percent on trying to get his team ready to take down the Lions on Thursday afternoon. He simply doesn’t have time to worry about whether or not he’s going to be fired or not.
Having said that, folks all over Chicago have grown increasingly frustrated with Nagy. Matter of fact, things got so bad during the loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, that fans were even chanting for him to be fired.
That tells you just how fed up people in the stands are of watching this team play mediocre football. Nagy is responsible for the weekly results and the Bears just haven’t made any strides this year on either side of the ball. While Nagy may have said his job is safe, there’s no doubt that he’s on the hot seat.
