5 NBA legends you forgot played for the Boston Celtics

5. Shaquille O’Neal — 2010-11 season
Shaquille O’Neal had a strange end to his career. Well, some might say strange, but it was pretty bad. His time with the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers was forgettable when compared to his time with the Magic, Lakers, and Heat, however, the Celtics run took it to another level.
O’Neal played just 37 games in what was a terrible season for injuries for Shaq. He was 38 years old, but there were times when he looked like a 50-year-old trying to keep up with the young guys at the local YMCA. He started almost every game, but he was unable to get over 10 points per game for the first time in his career.
Shaq was someone who used to average between 11 and 13 rebounds per game at his peak. He was averaging under 5 this season. He still had somewhat of an impact this season, and the Celtics actually looked worse with him out of the lineup somehow. The Celtics were just missing an impact center, and it really hurt them in the playoffs against the Miami Heat, who were in their first year of the LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh experiment.
O’Neal ended up retiring after this season, as it was clear he was a shell of his former self. Could he still contribute off the bench for a team if he wanted to? Maybe, but the injuries clearly took their toll and it was time to walk away from the game he loved.
