2022 NFL Mock Draft: Is Kenny Pickett the future in Carolina?
By Brad Weiss
Picks No. 7 through 10
Like the team they share MetLife Stadium with, the New York Giants will also pick twice within the first ten picks, this time coming in at No. 7 overall. We have already discussed how putrid they looked in the loss against Tampa Bay, as they were dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
With that said, after getting an offensive lineman with the No. 5 pick, they go ahead and select a defensive lineman with pick No. 7, adding edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson from Michigan. This is a guy who can flat out get the edge, and for a Giants team that is likely to revamp the defensive line in the offseason, this would be an excellent get in the top-10.
The Philadelphia Eagles would hold three picks within the top-16 selections of the 2022 NFL Draft if the season ended tomorrow, which is good, considering they have a lot of work to do. Jalen Hurts has looked like the answer at quarterback, so they are good there and can move their attention to the defensive side of the ball with pick No. 8.
With that selection, the Eagles add one of the more dynamic pass rushers in this draft class, selecting Purdue edge rusher George Karlaftis. Karlaftis is a player who is good against the run, can get after the quarterback, and on an Eagles, a defensive line that has struggled would be a starter on Day 1.
Pick No. 9 in this mock draft belongs to the Atlanta Falcons, who have a real decision to make in terms of the quarterback spot next offseason. Do they finally get rid of Matt Ryan, allowing him to go somewhere else to try and win a Super Bowl? Or do they hold on to him, and continue to try and build around him.
In this mock draft, they focus their top-10 pick on the offensive line, choosing to build around Ryan, and not try and replace him. Kenyon Green is one of my favorite offensive linemen in this draft class, because he is going to be able to play inside, or out at the next level, making him a very valuable pick.
Rounding out the top-10 in our latest mock draft is the Washington Football Team, who could be picking a lot later in round one if they continue their winning ways. The WFT seem to have a quarterback they like in Taylor Heinecke, so instead of replacing him with a draft pick here, they put a big body in front of him, selecting Iowa’s Tyler Linderbaum.
Linderbaum is a player who could end up going earlier in round one, as I believe he is going to grade out high during the draft process. If he is available at No. 10, and the WFT likes what they have in Heinecke, it would make no sense to pass up on him here.
