College football upset picks Week 12, No. 4. Florida

Rank: NR | Opponent: vs. Florida State | Time: Saturday, Nov. 27, Noon p.m. ET

The status of college football in the state of Florida is pretty much in the tank. All of Florida, Florida State, and Miami were a disappointment this season. There isn’t even a UCF or USF to salvage things this year. Everyone is pretty bad. This week, the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles reignite their rivalry as both programs contemplate how to move forward.

The Gators just fired Dan Mullen. He was coming off an overtime loss to the Missouri Tigers where they went for a two-point conversion to win the game in the first overtime. If they missed that attempt, would Mullen still be the coach? That’s neither here nor there, but they join LSU as the biggest program looking for a coach next season.

Yet, somehow, the Gators go into this game as the sitting favorites. Oddsmakers are giving the Gators three points at The Swamp. Usually, Gainesville provides Florida with a major home-field advantage, but this year is a little different. While they have played well at home this season, the team is spending more time dealing with the shock of their coach being let go than focusing on FSU.

Florida State is the winner of two straight, while Florida lost four of their last five games. The only win in that time period was likely the most embarrassing game among them. It was a 70-point effort to Sanford, but the Gators spent most of that game trailing. This is a Gators team that needs a complete reset, and the Seminoles might be the team that pulls the final plug.
