How many NFL teams have gone winless?
By Mark Powell
The Detroit Lions are at risk of finishing the season winless, despite a tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers in recent weeks.
While the Lions won’t lose any games, a winless campaign in a 17-game NFL season would arguably look even worse.
Detroit and Dan Campbell aren’t performing well in his first year as head coach. It’s not necessarily fully his fault, though he hasn’t improved in recent weeks. Campbell’s decision-making cost them a chance to get off the schnide on Thanksgiving against the Bears.
When was the last time and NFL team went winless?
The Cleveland Browns were the last winless team, as they failed to record a victory in 2017 under Hue Jackson. The Lions also went winless in 2008.
Longest losing streak NFL
The Chicago Cardinals lost 29 straight games in 1945.
Back to back timeouts NFL
Against the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving, Campbell called back-to-back timeouts, which is not something you see very often. Back-to-back timeouts are prohibited in the NFL. Rather than a charged timeout, referees are told to ignore the second timeout and call a five-yard penalty.
0-16 NFL teams
The only teams to go 0-16 in the NFL are the Cleveland Browns in 2017 and the Lions in 2008.
