2022 Nebraska football schedule and way-too-early predictions
The 2022 Nebraska football schedule will give the Cornhuskers the chance to prove they can flip close losses into victories next season.
Scott Frost staved off firing this season despite showing only marginal improvement, if that, as his team went 3-9.
The best thing that could be said about Nebraska football in 2021 is they were competitive. They may have lost nine games but they were mostly close hard-fought battles. Eight of Nebraska’s losses this year were by eight or fewer points. They had a point differential of 0 in Big Ten games this year. They just had awful luck and didn’t know how to close out games.
There’s something to be said for showing fight. However, Frost can’t fall back on “we tried” for much longer. The 2022 season is do or die.

It’ll all start in Ireland with an overseas conference matchup against Northwestern.
Realistically, the Cornhuskers are set up for a solid start to the season. The Wildcats are coming off a terrible season and could still be vulnerable in that early meeting though the venue could make it anyone’s game. Wins should follow against North Dakota, Georgia Southern, Rutgers and Indiana. The game against Oklahoma is a likely loss in the opening run.
The trouble for Frost could come in the second half of the season when the schedule gets considerably more difficult.
Nebraska could have beaten Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois and Iowa this season but they couldn’t get over the hump. If they take a step forward, those games could swing the Huskers’ way. They could easily go 3-3 in that stretch and go to a bowl game. They could also lose them all again and end on a six-gamel losing streak and miss a bowl game for another year.
Until Frost proves his team is capable of climbing that mountain, skepticism has to rule.
