The Alabama football team needed a miracle, and got one, to win the Iron Bowl over Auburn, thanks to this remarkable game-tying touchdown pass from Bryce Young to Ja’Corey Brooks.
Alabama had not hit pay dirt all day. Down 10-3 inside of the final minute, the Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback found his wide receiver on a beautiful fade route to the corner of the end zone. The Crimson Tide would go onto win this edition of the Iron Bowl in four overtimes, 24-22. Alabama will face the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship in Atlanta next week.

But perhaps the best call came from the Alabama radio broadcast on the pass from Young to John Metchie that sealed the win in the fourth overtime.
Even if Alabama lost at Jordan-Hare, the Crimson Tide still had a snowball’s chance to make the College Football Playoff anyway. Of course, it all hinges on beating Georgia in Atlanta next Saturday. Though Alabama could be the first two-loss team to make the big dance, it is not likely happening if they fall to Georgia a week from now. Still, winning the Iron Bowl is always a big deal.
This was a game where Young did not have it. While some will argue this is his Heisman Trophy moment, and it may very well be, his candidacy benefits considerably with C.J. Stroud’s Ohio State Buckeyes losing The Game to arch rival Michigan earlier in the afternoon on Saturday. No doubt about Young being a finalist this season, but his team is playing for something more vs. Georgia.
This touchdown is proof that giving Nick Saban’s team an extra 40 seconds is always a bad idea.
