Alabama football was able to mount a comeback and snag a win in four overtimes on the road against the Auburn Tigers.

It took an unexpected, thrilling comeback and four incredibly odd overtimes, but the Alabama Crimson Tide went out and got a road win against the Auburn Tigers. This is an Iron Bowl that the Tigers probably should have won given how they controlled it until late in the evening, but that’s just not the way that ball bounced this year.

Both teams relied heavily upon their defenses as neither team was really able to get any offense going outside of a few brief, brilliant moments.

One such moment was Alabama’s last drive in regulation when the Crimson Tide marched 97 yards down the field in a little over a minute to score the game-tying touchdown that forced overtime as both teams sat at 10-10 as regulation ended.

Alabama and Auburn traded scores in overtime until the Tigers couldn’t keep up with the Crimson Tide, and Alabama came out on top 24-22 despite trailing for essentially all of regulation.

This Iron Bowl, the first Iron Bowl to ever go into overtime, took four overtimes. It was weird.

This game was weird. Just flat-out weird. That’s appropriate for what has been a bizarre season, but this game was exceptionally odd. Alabama was tested and somehow survived. Now the Crimson Tide gets Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

A few slight mistakes ended up proving to be pretty costly. This is a game that an undermanned Auburn team could have conceivably stolen away from the Crimson Tide, but that just simply didn’t happen.

This is far from being Nick Saban’s best Alabama team, but it’s a team that has won the SEC West, can theoretically win the SEC, and could maybe sneak into the College Football Playoff. It’s still a really good team.
