Raiders are reportedly turning away head coaching inquiries
While the Las Vegas Raiders are looking for a long-term head coach to take over, Mark Davis is on no rush to find Jon Gruden’s replacement.
The Las Vegas Raiders are riding high right now and it’s easy to understand why. On Thursday, the team took down the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, with interim head coach Rich Bisaccia being all smiles after the final whistle. While Bisaccia is in charge now, it won’t be his job next season.
Having said that, it doesn’t look like team owner Mark Davis is ready to make his decision before the 2021 campaign comes to a close. Per NFL insider Jason La Canfora, a source tells him that Davis’ focus is on the team making the postseason for now.
Raiders head coach search placed on hold for now
Following that win over Dallas, the Raiders are 6-5 on the season and squarely in the AFC Wild Card mix. They’ll need to close out the year strong to grab one of those spots. At the same time, they’re right behind the 7-4 Chiefs and 6-4 Chargers in the AFC West standings as well.
For Davis, he’s putting his full trust in Bisaccia to get the job done the rest of the season and get this team to the playoffs. It has obviously been a year filled with so much adversity for the season, including Gruden stepping down as head coach due to his disturbing e-mails and Henry Ruggs being released after his DUI arrest which killed a young woman.
Depsite that, the Raiders are still looking like a stellar team, with Derek Carr powering the offense. Carr is in the middle of a fine season. Now, he’ll look to keep operating at a high level the rest of the way. Once 2021 does come to a close, though, you can expect Davis to make his coaching search a priority.
