After the Lincoln Riley to USC news was revealed, Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Caleb Williams took to Twitter to post his thoughts.

College football fans figured they might get some coaching new on Sunday, but no one knew just how massive the wave would be.

Florida hiring Billy Napier was essentially in the bag, and Sunday’s new break felt like more of a formality than anything else. Hearing that Lincoln Riley was leaving Oklahoma to fill the head coach vacancy at USC was a bit more unexpected and seismic.

It’s not, however, entirely shocking to those who were in the locker room with Riley after Saturday’s game. Quarterback Caleb Williams heard about Riley’s decision well ahead of the rest of the world finding out, and reacted to the news once it had become official.

Williams took to Twitter on Sunday to react to the news that Riley was heading out west and taking the open job at USC.

It’s still extremely fresh, but Williams took the high road out of the gate and wished his former head coach well. No matter what his future in college football holds — whether it’s at Oklahoma or transferring to another program — it’s hard to not smile at Williams’ genuine message to Riley.

Williams replaced opening day starter Spencer Rattler at the behest of Riley, which many thought would be the first steps in a special partnership between the two. That’s not happening now, and it will be one of the bigger What-If scenarios that Sooners fans ponder based on how things go in Norman in the post-Riley era.
