Rams are a good team, but they aren’t winning the Super Bowl
The Los Angeles Rams have superstar players but they don’t look like a team that is truly capable of competing for a Super Bowl.
The Rams were one of the hottest teams in football a month ago and it looked like they were only getting stronger when they traded for Von Miller and signed Oddell Beckham Jr.
However, they’ve lost three straight games since that Miller deal, putting Super Bowl planning on hold.
After Sunday’s loss to the Packers, it’s clear that Los Angeles could become a formidable team. They just aren’t ready to make that Super Bowl push right now.
The L.A. Rams are a good team but they’re not a Super Bowl team
The Rams might have been able to blame the personnel shake-up on losses to the Titans and the 49ers. The latter loss was particularly head-scratching, but these things happen in the NFL.
The trouble is they came off a buy week to face a Packers team dealing with injury issues. Now was the time to show they could come together and challenge a team considered the class of the NFC.
They couldn’t.
The Rams don’t have a run game to support Matthew Stafford and the receiving corps is clearly feeling the absence of injured star Robert Woods. Beckham Jr. isn’t bridging that gap.
The defense continues to struggle to find their feet without Brandon Staley, the former defensive coordinator who is now the Chargers head coach. They have the players, but not the scheme.
The Packers took advantage of all of that to show LA what a real Super Bowl contender looks like.
No team has gone as far all in with personnel moves as the Rams this year. That’s why patience will be a hard sell. This doesn’t look like their year with their issues extending beyond the superstar additions on offense and defense.
