Notre Dame football: Brian Kelly ‘ghosted’ his own assistants with LSU news
By Scott Rogust
Brian Kelly apparently “ghosted” his Notre Dame assistants regarding the news that he would be taking the LSU head coaching job.
Just when you thought things were going to settle down after Lincoln Riley took the USC head coaching job after leaving Oklahoma, Brian Kelly is expected to up-and-leave Notre Dame. Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel broke the news on Monday that Kelly is expected to take the LSU Tigers head coaching job. Apparently, fans and the media were not the only ones to find out about the big move.
According to multiple reports, Kelly did not inform his Notre Dame coaching staff that he was leaving for LSU. In fact, one assistant spoke with The Athletic’s Matt Fortuna and said he found out the news on his phone as he left a recruit’s home.
Brian Kelly reportedly “ghosts” Notre Dame assistants as he is expected to leave for LSU
LSU was in need of a head coach after they opted to part ways with Ed Orgeron at the end of the season. After the Tigers picked up a win over the Texas A&M Aggies this past Saturday, Orgeron announced that that was his final game and he would not coach LSU if they were selected to a bowl game.
As for Kelly, he is getting a huge offer to coach the Tigers. According to Fortuna and The Athletic’s LSU beat reporter Brody Miller, the university offered Kelly a 10-year deal worth more than $100 million, including incentives. In Thamel’s report, LSU could announce the hiring as soon as Tuesday.
With Kelly seemingly gone for the Bayou, all eyes will be on Notre Dame to see who they will hire to be their next head coach.
