Tiger Woods gives clarity about future playing on PGA Tour
Just a week after getting the golf world stirring with a swing video, Tiger Woods opened up in an interview about his future playing on the PGA Tour.
Tiger Woods sent every golf fan into a frenzy just over a week ago when he posted a short clip of him swinging on the range. That, naturally, got everyone speculating about when the arguable GOAT of the sport would be back playing on the PGA Tour again.
On Monday, we got further clarity about what the future will hold for Woods.
In an interview with Golf Digest, Woods opened up about his future, his recovery and much more. But when addressing what his return to the PGA Tour will look like, he had this to say.
"“I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day — never full time, ever again — but pick and choose, just like Mr. [Ben] Hogan did. Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that.”"
Tiger Woods will never play on the PGA Tour as a full-time player again — we’ve heard it from his own mouth. However, he quite clearly plans on playing again, which is a hugely positive note that fans should certainly take away from this.
Tiger Woods update: When will Tiger play again?
If we were writing a movie, the second weekend of April when the best golfers in the world take on Augusta National Golf Club at The Masters would be the moment Tiger Woods makes his return.
Still, given the severity of his injuries and, despite the optimism that the short swing video inspired, the fact that it still looks as if he has some work to do to get back into form, playing The Masters might still be a longshot.
With that said, the way things have progressed over the past month with Woods do indicate that a return in the 2022 calendar year could be possible. Big events such as the 150th Open Championship at vaunted St. Andrews in July would be an interesting spot to look for. Then again, it’s really difficult to say.
At the end of the day, though, the fact that we won’t ever see Tiger Woods as a full-time PGA Tour player shouldn’t be upsetting to anyone. Instead, we should be thankful that all signs are pointing to seeing him play competitively again and at his own pace and on his own schedule.
That’s a gift to golf fans, without question.
