Former five-star recruit and TCU running back Zach Evans has entered the transfer portal.

After two forgettable seasons with the TCU Horned Frogs, former five-star running back Zach Evans has entered the transfer portal.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Evans was the No. 1 player from Texas, the No. 2 running back in the country and the No. 16 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He initially committed to Georgia, but got out of his national letter of intent shortly after signing day. The Houston native opted to stay in-state to play for the iconic Gary Patterson over in Fort Worth.

With Sonny Dykes now taking over the TCU football program, here are five schools where Evans could conceivably transfer to.

The Tennessee Volunteers are an on-the-rise program under Josh Heupel

One team that has an outside shot at landing Evans is the Tennessee Volunteers. They massively overachieved under first-year head coach Josh Heupel. Though the Vols are still a few years away from seriously contending in the SEC East, landing a playmaker of Evans’ caliber could expedite things. However, Heupel could be a candidate to replace Lincoln Riley at his alma mater Oklahoma.

The Ole Miss Rebels are now a 10-win program under Lane Kiffin in year two

As with Tennessee, another SEC school that Evans visited before committing to TCU was Ole Miss. This was ahead of Lane Kiffin’s first season in Oxford. Now that year two is a bowl game from being over, the Rebels are a 10-2 team and destined for the New Year’s Six. An elite running back could help Ole Miss maybe win the SEC West, but Kiffin could potentially leave for the LSU gig.

While Ole Miss and Tennessee would be great landing spots for Evans, these three others have to be the favorites to land him this time around.
