28. Joe Theismann and Art Monk

Washington was one of the best teams of the 1980s, and their electric quarterback and wide receiver duo of Joe Theismann and Art Monk was a large reason for their success.

From 1980-85, Theismann and Monk were one of the most consistent duos in the NFL. In Monk’s rookie season, he caught 58 passes for just under 800 yards and three touchdowns. The next season, Monk had almost 100 more yards receiving and doubled his touchdown count from three to six. Washington won the Super Bowl in 1982 against the Dolphins. Theismann was a Pro Bowler that season, but Monk missed seven games.

1983 was a special year for Washington as a whole. Theismann was named first-team All-Pro. The Washington quarterback threw for over 3,700 yards and 29 touchdowns, and Washington went back to the Super Bowl. They were defeated by the Raiders, but it was a great year for Theismann, and  Monk had 746 yards and five touchdowns that season.

However, 1984 was Monk’s best season. He led the NFL with 106 catches for 1,372 yards and seven touchdowns. Theismann threw for over 3,300 yards and 24 touchdowns. Theismann retired after the 1985 season due to his leg injury, but Monk went on to have a long, successful career that resulted in him being a Hall of Fame inductee in 2008.
