Houston Texans: Brock Osweiler

Yeah, not much consideration was needed on this one. The Texans’ signing of Brock Osweiller is one of the worst in NFL history. The former Arizona State Sun Devil put up respectable performances in relief of Peyton Manning during the 2015 season. He went 5-2 with the help of a generational defense and helped lead Denver to the playoffs.

The Texans were in desperate need of a quarterback going into 2016 and took a chance on Osweiler. Houston gave the former Bronco a four-year deal worth $72 million, with $37 million fully guaranteed. While Houston made the playoffs in 2016, Osweiler was a disaster.

He completed just 59 percent of his passes, throwing 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Houston beat the Raiders in the playoffs, but that was in large part to Derek Carr being injured and Connor Cook getting the start for Oakland.

Osweiler was traded to the Browns the following season, and eventually went back to Denver for a short stint, and then went to Miami where he last played in 2018. This is the worst quarterback free agent signing in NFL history by a decent margin. With the whole Deshaun Watson dilemma looming large, the Texans once again in quarterback purgatory.
