Pittsburgh Steelers: Donte Moncrief
The Steelers thought they had found yet another reliable receiver to add to their Rolodex. Instead, they got a guy that wouldn’t even last an entire season with the team. Moncrief had solid stints in Indianapolis and Jacksonville before signing with Pittsburgh before the 2019 season. His best year came in 2015 with the Colts, where he caught 64 passes and had six touchdowns.
He was reliable for Jacksonville in his lone year with the Jaguars in 2018, catching 48 passes and averaging almost 14 yards per catch. The Steelers brought him in, hoping to have a solid rotational receiver that could end up being a strong third receiver in the offense. Moncrief was a Steeler for all of five games, where he amassed more drops than receptions on 15 targets. He had multiple drops in Week 1 against New England and had a crucial pass bounce off his hands and get picked off in Week 2 against Seattle.
The Steelers were quick to cut ties with the veteran, as Diontae Johnson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and James Washington were all seen as more reliable targets. Moncrief spent six games with the Patriots in 2020, catching just one pass, and hasn’t played in 2021.
