Chicago Bears: Mike Glennon

Poor Mike Glennon. One of the bigger stories of the 2017 offseason was the quarterback controversy in Chicago. The Bears signed Glennon from Tampa Bay in March of 2017, giving him a 3 year deal worth up to $45 million with over $18 million in guaranteed money. Glennon assumed he was the team’s focal point at quarterback going forward, as you likely would after getting a big contract from a team.

Instead, the Bears traded up to draft North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Glennon started just four games for the Bears in 2017, going 1-3 in that span before Chicago named Trubisky the starter. With about $18.3 million guaranteed to Glennon, he made over $4 million per start with the Bears, and was gone in 2018.

Since then, Glennon has played for four different teams and has never had the chance to be a full-time starter in any of those destinations. On top of that, Trubisky proved to not be the franchise quarterback they were hoping for, and he signed with Buffalo as a backup in 2021.

It is easily one of the biggest failures for a team in the last decade, spending a ton of money and draft picks on two quarterbacks that never amounted to much success.
