Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees won’t be following Brian Kelly to LSU and he let the Irish players know with a great speech.

When Tommy Rees decided he’d be staying with Notre Dame football, he wanted to be the first to tell the players.

They had to find out about head coach Brian Kelly leaving via social media. This time they got much better news in person.

Undercover video of Kelly addressing the team about his departure leaked. This time the Irish posted a proper video of Rees addressing the team to tell them the good news.

In the video, Rees acknowledged it’s been a wild week but he made it clear he’s loyal to the Irish.

“This is where my heart is and my heart is with you guys,” Rees said. “I care too much to leave this place. This is where I want to be. This is where I want to win a national championship.”

His closing line will get any Notre Dame fan fired up.

“Let’s go win a f—— national championship here at Notre Dame,” he finished.

The offensive coordinator also posted a gif on Twitter to get his enthusiasm across.

Rees played at Notre Dame from 2010 to 2013 with 7,351 yards and 61 touchdowns in his day. He’s risen quickly through the recruiting ranks, starting out at Northwestern.

He made his way back to South Bend as the quarterbacks coach in 2017 and took over as offensive coordinator in 2020. Under Rees, the Irish’s offenses have averaged 33.4 and 35.3 points per game.

According to reports, retaining Rees was one of Notre Dame’s highest priorities before choosing defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman as head coach.
