3 potential transfer destinations for Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers has entered the transfer portal after one year at Ohio State, but where could the No. 1 quarterback from the 2021 class be heading now?
Ohio State football had an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback position that was made even crazier when Quinn Ewers reclassified from 2022 to the 2021 cycle, making him the No. 1-ranked recruit and quarterback in the class and taking him to Columbus.
Of course, he did not win the job as C.J. Stroud took over and, now, he won’t be with the Buckeyes past this season.
Ahead of conference championship weekend, though OSU won’t be playing, Ewers entered the transfer portal in a stunning move that puts one of the most talented young quarterbacks in college football — even if we’ve not seen him on the field — on the transfer market.
We know he’s leaving Ohio State, but where could Quinn Ewers land next? There are three likely destinations for the Southland, TX native.

3. Texas Tech Red Raiders
It’s going to be interesting to see how heavily Texas Tech could potentially play into the Quinn Ewers mix. Obviously, the Red Raiders have a recent history of producing a high-level quarterback with Patrick Mahomes, but they haven’t landed a fish quite as big on the recruiting or transfer trail like Ewers would be for the program.
Adding to the mix in Lubbock is the fact that the program is about to enter a new era with Matt Wells out and Joey McGuire taking over. Given the pedestrian record of the Red Raiders in recent years, you have to think that the new head coach and his staff would love to make a big push to land a game-changer like Ewers.
Even still, when considering that Ewers had his pick of high-end programs like Alabama, Ohio State, and many others, Texas Tech certainly stands out. Though they are being mentioned already as a potential destination for the quarterback, they would have to be considered the longshot option by any reasonable assessment of the situation.
However, if the other options on Quinn Ewers’ radar don’t present a situation where he could A. play right away or B. feel like he fits well, then perhaps the Red Raiders could pull off a coup in the transfer portal that would massively change the trajectory of their program for the next few years.
