Nick Saban’s Alabama football team generally doesn’t find itself as an underdog, but that was the case when the Crimson Tide met the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta.

The Alabama football program is one of the best-run college football programs in the country. Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has assembled a team that has the capability to be a perennial contender to make the College Football Playoff.

So it’s not often that the Crimson Tide happens to be an underdog when it goes up against literally anybody. Saban’s teams tend to win far more often than they lose (and it seems like most of those wins are incredibly lopsided), so oddsmakers generally act as if believe that Alabama will beat its foes without much of an issue.

Coming into the SEC Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs, the Crimson Tide had a record of being favored in 92 games.

But Alabama wasn’t favored against Georgia this Saturday. And, as it turns out, the last time Alabama was an underdog was when the Crimson Tide faced off against the Bulldogs a few years back.

Alabama football: When was the last time the Alabama Crimson Tide was an underdog?

The last time Alabama was a 1.5 point underdog (prior to the 2021 SEC Championship Game) was against Georgia in Mark Richt’s final season with the Bulldogs. Alabama entered into the game on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, in Athens as a slight underdog, but the Crimson Tide managed to win big.

Alabama, thanks to the dominant effort of Derrick Henry and the Crimson Tide’s strong defense, was able to win 38-10.

Henry ran for 148 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. As a whole, Alabama’s offense struggled to really generate a ton of yards, but Henry’s performance helped elevate what the Crimson Tide could do. Alabama also snagged four turnovers, three of which were interceptions from Greyson Lambert and Brice Ramsey.

Now, in 2021, Alabama isn’t the favorite against the Bulldogs again. Alabama’s 92-game streak of being the betting favorite is bookended by the Bulldogs.
