Despite playing semi-regularly over the years, it has not been since the 2007 season that the Georgia football team has beaten the Alabama football program.

With Georgia football fans thinking about the College Football Playoff, Alabama football fans have to win on Saturday to have any shot of getting into the big dance.

These two SEC titans will clash in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. Georgia enters play undefeated at 12-0. Alabama has one loss on the year to Texas A&M, so the Crimson Tide have no wiggle room if they want to make the four-team field. They must beat the Dawgs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta or else. However, it has been a minute since the Dawgs beat the Crimson Tide.

The last time Georgia beat Alabama on the college football gridiron, Nick Saban was just getting started in Tuscaloosa.

Georgia football: When was the last time the Dawgs beat Alabama?

The last time Georgia beat Alabama was on Sept. 22, 2007. It was an overtime thriller in Tuscaloosa, as Matthew Stafford and the rest of Mark Richt’s team beat a rebuilding Saban squad, 26-23. Almost a year later, these two SEC powers met in Athens for the infamous Blackout Game. No. 8 Alabama crushed No. 3 Georgia. The college football world changed forever after that night.

Alabama is currently riding the longest winning streak in the rivalry’s history at six. This includes two SEC Championship game victories over Georgia (2012, 2018), as well as the 2017 national title. Fate would have it all three heart-breaking losses were in Atlanta. It is only fitting that the Dawgs must slay the dragon in the same city where so much pain and suffering emanates from.

If Georgia beats Alabama, the Dawgs will be the undisputed No. 1 seed in the 2022 College Football Playoff.
