When is the last time Georgia football won the SEC?
By John Buhler
The last time the Georgia football team won the SEC Championship, the Dawgs made it to the College Football Playoff.
While Georgia football fans are so beyond tired having to hear rival fanbases bring up 1980 at every turn, it was not that long ago when the Dawgs got it done in Atlanta.
The undefeated Georgia Bulldogs will face the one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2021 SEC Championship game. While Georgia has almost certainly locked up a spot in the College Football Playoff, regardless of what happens on Saturday, a win over Alabama not only eliminates the Crimson Tide from the playoff conversation, but it guarantees the Dawgs of the No. 1 seed.
Simply put, the only way the Dawgs get that No. 1 seed and head to the Orange Bowl is if they beat their perpetual nemesis Alabama in Atlanta.
Georgia football: When was the last time the Dawgs won the SEC?
Not since the infamous Blackout Game has Georgia defeated Alabama on the gridiron. However, the Dawgs do have an SEC Championship under the belt since Nick Saban took over in Tuscaloosa. Georgia’s last SEC Championship came in 2017 with a dominating 28-7 neutral-site victory over Auburn. It was Auburn who won the SEC West that season with wins over Georgia and Alabama.
Georgia would go on to be the No. 3 seed in the 2018 College Football Playoff. While the Dawgs won a wild one over the No. 2-seeded Oklahoma Sooners in The Rose Bowl, Georgia fell to No. 4 seed Alabama in Atlanta on something known around the college football world as second-and-26. While Georgia got to raise an SEC Championship banner that year, the Dawgs lost the big one.
Winning the SEC has not been the problem for the Dawgs, it has been winning the whole shebang.
