Dropping the Big 12 championship game to Baylor has a major impact on the Oklahoma State football team’s latest bowl projection.

Championship Saturday has gotten off to an incredible start with Baylor stunning the Oklahoma State football team to win the Big 12.

In a game riddled by turnovers, Dave Aranda’s Baylor Bears eked out a thrilling 21-16 victory over Mike Gundy’s Oklahoma State Cowboys. Now at 11-2 and champions of the Big 12, Baylor is a lock to make the New Year’s Six, possibly getting into the College Football Playoff’s four-team field. If this does happen, they will be the first two-loss team to ever make it into the big dance.

As for Oklahoma State, do the Cowboys have any hope of getting to a New Year’s Six bowl?

While Brett McMurphy of The Action Network had his alma mater in the College Football Playoff and playing in the Orange Bowl, that is no longer the case.

If the Big 12 gets a team in, it will be conference champion Baylor, and that’s it. Assuming Georgia takes care of business and hands the Alabama Crimson Tide a second loss on the season in the SEC Championship, Baylor may take Oklahoma State’s spot in the College Football Playoff.

The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel has Oklahoma State going to the Fiesta Bowl in his latest bowl projections.

The Big 12 should have two teams in the New Year’s Six, and this projection will allow it to happen.
