Skip Bayless had a pleasant reaction to Oklahoma hiring former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables as their new head coach.
Skip Bayless is happy that Oklahoma football has announced former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables as its new head coach.
On Sunday, news broke that Venables, a national champion as the Tigers defensive coordinator, would be moving back to Norman to replace the recently departed Lincoln Riley. Riley is now the head coach at USC.
The move proved to be one that Bayless was on board with, calling it a move that will allow Oklahoma to have a good defense as Venables has more energy and charisma than Riley.
If Brent Venables is indeed returning to Okla to be HC, I'm good w it. Far more energy, emotion, charisma than Riley. AND FINALLY WE'LL HAVE A LEGIT DEFENSE. Riley routinely embarrassed OU fans w all-offense/no-D teams that got annihilated by Ga, Ala & LSU in semis. Enjoy, USC.

For some, it may look like sour grapes, but Bayless makes a point on Riley’s tenure in Oklahoma. His defenses were less than stellar, as evidenced by their lack of performance whenever the Sooners reached the College Football Playoff. Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and even Clemson had their way with the Sooners defense.
Venables has a strong reputation for building formidable defenses, the highlight being the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship where the unit destroyed the Crimson Tide’s rhythm in a 44-16 rout. Despite a letdown this year, Venables still put together a strong core of players.
Oklahoma will have a new identity, and it will be needed pending their move to the SEC, where great defensive play will be essential in winning games. Additionally, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia all reside in the SEC, meaning the Sooners will have an opportunity to get back at them if they recruit well and get the proper personnel.
Skip Bayless looks like he is on board with this, and so are the rest of the Cream and Crimson crew.
