Braves: 3 players who can still return to Atlanta after lockout
By John Buhler
Atlanta must love the productivity and versatility of Eddie Rosario in the outfield
For as much as Atlanta grew to love Jorge Soler, the same can be said for Eddie Rosario. Though they were traded to the Braves on the same life-changing day in late July, it took a bit longer for Rosario to become a fan favorite for Braves Country. Once he nursed his way back to health from injury, Rosario became a fixture in the outfield and slayed the dragon once and for all in the NLCS.
Rosario put up high school numbers vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers in that pivotal series. They had been the Braves’ perpetual nemesis throughout so many Octobers in recent years. To knock the defending World Series Champions out a few weeks before your own coronation was nothing short of impressive. All the while, Atlanta saw what Rosario could do as an everyday outfielder.
The reason why the Braves would take Rosario over Soler, all things equal, is inherent defensive versatility. While they both have incredible pop at the plate, Rosario can flash the leather better than can Soler. Defensive prowess was a massive factor in the Braves winning their first World Series title in 26 years. Frankly, Atlanta would be foolish to let Rosario walk after just two months.
Rosario is a perfect piece to start in left field and hit either first or fifth in the Braves’ batting order.
