Top 30 plays in NFL history
22. The Philly Special
Yes, the phrase “Philly Special” has been said about a trillion times since the Eagles pulled it off in Super Bowl LII. Yes, it got very annoying very quickly hearing the phrase every day for the entire offseason after the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Take away all of that, though, this play is synonymous with one of the biggest underdogs in NFL history.
Toward the end of the first half, the Eagles decided they were going to go for it on fourth and goal. Quarterback Nick Foles moved and lined up behind the right side of the offensive line while Corey Clement took the direct snap. Clement took the direct snap and pitched it to tight end Trey Burton. Foles then broke toward the end zone with no one near him. Burton threw to the wide open Foles, and the Philly Special became the most talked about thing in sports.
The decision to go for it turned out to be pivotal in the Eagles 41-33 victory. The Eagles won their first Super Bowl in team history, and the team built a statue of Foles and Doug Pederson following the Super Bowl win. While both have since left Philadelphia, they will always be remembered for their contributions in bringing the city a championship.
