Ohio State football quarterback C.J. Stroud is blaming the flu for the Buckeyes losing to Michigan this year claiming his squad is still the better team.
Rivalries run deep. When you lose to your rival, excuses run deep too.
You can’t exactly blame Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud for backing his team as the most “physical” team in college football despite their two losses.
Still, when he uttered the phrase, “I’m not making excuses,” that line was always inevitably going to end in literal excuses.
C.J. Stroud blamed the flu for Ohio State’s loss to Michigan
“When you take into consideration what we’re going through that week, preparing for the team up north and everybody kind of having the flu and things like that – of course I don’t make excuses – but you kind of got to take that into consideration. It kind of does matter. I’ll take Ohio State, I’ll take my brothers against anybody,” Stroud said per Eleven Warriors.
Again, Stroud is going to back his squad against accusations that they were soft against Michigan. The flu may have indeed mattered.
It’s also very much an excuse.
Stroud also thinks Ohio State is a better team than Michigan, despite losing to them 42-27.
This is a dance that’ll have Buckeyes fans going to bat for Stroud and Michigan fans scoffing at him.
The only thing Stroud needs to worry about right now is making sure Ohio State turns out to be a better team than Utah, the Buckeyes’ opponent in the Rose Bowl.
