Minnesota Vikings: 1998 NFC Championship Game
The Vikings were the most exciting team in the NFL in 1998. Their offense set a ton of records, and Randy Moss had one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history.
The game started fast with the Falcons scoring a touchdown on the opening drive. The Vikings answered as Randall Cunningham hit Moss for a touchdown. The Vikings took the lead with a Gary Anderson field goal in the second quarter, and then extended their lead to 10 after a Cunningham touchdown run. Anderson added another field goal to give the Vikings a commanding 20-7 lead, but the Falcons scored a touchdown before halftime to shorten the lead to six.
The Vikings held a 27-17 lead in the fourth quarter before the Falcons kicked a field goal to make it a 27-20 game. With just over two minutes left, the Vikings brought out Anderson to kick a field goal that would all but seal the win, and a trip to the Super Bowl, for the Vikings.
Anderson missed the kick to the left. Anderson never missed inside 40 yards, and when he did, the writing seemed to be on the wall for the Vikings. Atlanta drove down the field and tied the game, sending it to overtime. Falcons kicker Morten Andersen would kick the game-winning field goal for the Falcons in overtime and send them to the Super Bowl.
