Young was the favorite to win the Heisman after he led Alabama’s demolition of Georgia’s usually outstanding defense in the SEC Championship Game. The quarterback put up 421 yards and threw three touchdown passes while scoring another on the ground in the 41-24 victory.

All told this season, Young threw for 4,322 yards and 43 touchdowns. He completed 68 percent of his passes and had just four interceptions all year. His passer rating was 17.53.

Young is the second consecutive Alabama star to win the Heisman. He followed in the footsteps of wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who won the award last year.

Smith also won a national title before his career with the Crimson Tide was up. Young will try to do the same with Alabama set to face Cincinnati in the College Football Playoff semifinal on New Year’s Eve.
