As large scale changes are likely in order for the Chicago Bears this offseason, a potential front office candidate has the team linked to Ryan Day.

Barring something truly unforeseen, the Chicago Bears will be undergoing huge changes in the offseason. Not only is it likely that Matt Nagy will be gone as head coach but there could also be changes in the front office as well.

And the name currently connected to the Bears head coaching job by way of a front office rumor is quite a big one: Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day.

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, former Bear and current coaching agent Trace Armstrong could be in line for a top front office position in Chicago. But Armstrong has been a big proponent of Day as a potential hire at the pro level and the Ohio State head man has flirted loosely with the NFL in recent years amid interest around the league as well.

Bears rumors: Ryan Day as the next head coach in Chicago?

The obvious connection between Ryan Day and the Bears is that Chicago drafted one of Day’s most high-profile players, quarterback Justin Fields, in the first round of this past year’s draft.

Beyond that, though, La Canfora’s report states that Armstrong has long believed that Day is cut out for being a winning NFL head coach. And for what it’s worth, he does have some experience at the pro level, serving as a quarterbacks coach for the Eagles and 49ers.

Considering that Nagy, general manager Ryan Pace, and the rest of the Chicago front office remains in place as of right now, this is all just buzz and conjecture at this point. With that being said, there are clear connections to the Bears and Armstrong and then Armstrong to Day. That is to say, the possibility isn’t all that far-fetched.
