Former White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon’s wife comments on Yankees interest

Carlos Rodon is one of the more intriguing starting pitchers left on the free agent market. With MLB in a lockout, he and his family have plenty of time to consider their options.

Despite Rodon’s injury issues, the right-handed pitcher is hoping for an upgrade in pay, as he made just $3 million with the White Sox last season. His stats suggest he was significantly underpaid.

Those numbers are good enough to lead any rotation, and Rodon knows it. Lately, he’s been connected to the New York Yankees and even Chicago Cubs. Could Rodon sign in the Bronx once the lockout ends?

Rodon’s wife, Ashley, wrote on Twitter that she wishes the lockout were over so her husband could find a new home. By doing so, she hinted that the Yankees are a potential suitor.

Is it vague? Absolutely. Did she turn down the Yankees entirely? Definitely not.

The Yankees have far too many question marks in their rotation as of this writing. Beyond Gerrit Cole, New York will count on Jordan Montgomery, Luis Severino and Jameson Taillon among other unproven starters to get them through the 2022 campaign. That’s not nearly good enough.

Carlos Rodon injury concerns

Rodon missed the majority of the 2017 and 2018 seasons due to injuries. He missed all of 2019 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and dealt with shoulder fatigue towards the tail end of last season.

If the Yankees are to sign him, it would have to be to an incentive-laden contract, which would cover New York should Rodon get injured.
