Top 30 NFL teams in history
29. 2014 New England Patriots
This season was more important for the Patriots than people seem to remember. The Patriots had appeared in the Super Bowl in the 2011 season, but they lost to the Giants for the second time in the biggest game of the year, and Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were still sitting at only three rings.
That season, the Patriots finished the year with the fourth most points in the NFL. New England had the fewest turnovers in the league that year.
Defensively, the Patriots allowed the eight fewest yards in the league, but other than that, they were rather average on that side of the ball.
When the playoffs rolled around, the Patriots reminded everyone who they were. They defeated the Ravens 35-31 and then humiliated the Colts 45-7 in the AFC Championship.
Then, the Super Bowl rolled around and it looked as if the Patriots were about to lose another heartbreaker. Jermaine Kearse had just made a circus catch to set up the Seahawks to win their second straight Super Bowl. Instead, Russell WIlson threw the ball and it was intercepted by Malcolm Butler at the goal line. The Patriots won their fourth Super Bowl of the Brady-Belichick era in dramatic fashion, their first since the 2004 season.
