5. 1999 St. Louis Rams

The Greatest Show on Turf was the most surprising development of the 1999 season. After losing Trent Green to a season ending injury, the Rams seemed dead in the water without their starting quarterback. Instead, they rallied behind Kurt Warner, who threw 41 touchdowns and was named NFL MVP.

With Warner, along with the likes of Issac Bruce, Torry Holt, and Marshall Faulk, the Rams led the NFL in points scored with 526. The Rams were also the No. 1 offense in terms of total yardage, piling up over 6,400 total yards.

The Rams defense deserves a lot of credit, as well. They allowed the fourth fewest points in the league, holding opponents to just 15.1 points per game. St. Louis also allowed the sixth fewest yards in the league, as well.

The Rams high-scoring offense , paired with their defense that didn’t allow a ton of points, took them to the Super Bowl to face the Titans. The Rams won 23-16, with linebacker Mike Jones tackling Kevin Dyson on the final play of the game to secure the win. From seemingly being left for dead, to Super Bowl champions, the Rams cemented themselves as one of the best teams in history.
