23. 1966 Green Bay Packers

The Packers team that won the first Super Bowl is one of the best of the Vince Lombardi era.

Green Bay went 12-2 on the season, and were the class of the NFL on both sides of the ball. They scored the fourth most points in the league with 335, and had the eight most yards of any team with nearly 4,300 yards. Their ground attack was one of the best in the NFL. They were third in the league with 18 rushing touchdowns, and had the fewest interceptions of any team.

As good as the Packers offense was, their defense was better. They allowed the fewest points in the league, totaling just 163 points against in 1966. They also allowed the third fewest yards in the league. The defense really played into what the offense was doing. While the Green Bay offense had the fewest turnovers in football, their defense had the most takeaways, constantly putting them in position to win.

Green Bay beat the Cowboys in the NFL Championship Game 34-27 before facing the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl I. They handled the Chiefs in a 35-14 victory, continuing their reign of dominance they established through the decade.
