The 2022 Auburn football recruiting class was Bryan Harsin and his staff’s first complete shot at making a splash in the SEC. How did they do?

Bryan Harsin’s first season at Auburn ended with a 6-6 record. The Tigers had a victory over Ole Miss but the good feelings dissipated with four straight losses to end the regular season.

Harsin needed some positive momentum in December and he got it from Signing Day.

Everything didn’t go the Tigers’ way in the end, but they landed some welcome reinforcements.

Robert Woodyard is the top commit for Auburn football recruiting in 2022

Four-star linebacker Robert Woodyard headlines for Auburn as the No. 137 prospect in the 247Sports composite.

Woodyard represents a major recruiting victory for the Tigers. He’s from Mobile and had been committed to Alabama. He flipped to Auburn on Signing Day, giving them a linebacker who plays all over the field.

The Tigers needed the immediate help at linebacker and Woodyard can provide that with the real possibility of seeing early playing time, if not in 2022 then 2023.

Jay Fair is the Auburn football recruiting diamond in the rough

Wide receiver Jay Fair managed to pick up three stars and a ranking as the No. 571 prospect for 2022. He’s one of Auburn’s lowest-rated signees bt that doesn’t mean he couldn’t end up being extremely high impact.

That’s because he’s extremely fast and speed is something that will always come in handy.

Strongest and weakest position groups for Auburn football recruiting

The cornerback group Auburn is bringing in is stacked. They pulled JaDarian Rhym out of Georgia and Austin Ausberry out of Louisiana as Top 200 prospects. Then they added Keionte Scott, the No. 1 JUCO cornerback in the class. The secondary will also be strengthened with safeties like Tre Donaldson, Marquise Gilbert and Caleb Wooden.

The offensive line haul could have been better with only Eston Harris signing as a three-star.

Auburn football recruiting class ranking

Coming out of Signing Day, Auburn’s class ranked No. 15 nationally and No. 7 in the SEC.

The national ranking is solid. There can be few complaints there. However, seventh in the SEC is slightly disappointing with the likes of Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee outranking the Tigers.
