Just how did the Clemson Tigers do on National Signing Day? Here is our grade.
The Clemson Tigers are going through a bit of turnover leading up to their Cheez-It Bowl game against the Iowa State Cyclones. Athletic director Dan Radakovich left for Miami, defensive coordinator Brent Venables was hired as Oklahoma’s new head coach, and offensive coordinator Tony Elliott earned the Virginia head coaching gig.
Putting all of that aside, Clemson has plenty to look forward to, as this Wednesday is National Signing Day. Given the commits that the program has had thus far, they should be in good shape.
Let’s look at how Clemson’s 2022 recruiting class grades out. All rankings are courtesy of the 247 Sports Composite.
Clemson football top 2022 recruit: Cade Klubnik, QB (Austin, TX)
The star of 2022 recruiting class is Westlake quarterback Cade Klubnik. Out of Austin, TX, Klubnik is ranked as the top quarterback prospect in the nation and could slide into the starting role at some point in the near future.
Clemson football recruiting strengths and weaknesses
The obvious strength, as mentioned above, is the Tigers got the top quarterback recruit in the nation. That is a huge plus, considering the program has entered “life without Trevor Lawrence” territory. When it comes to a weakness, the program only recruited one tight end in the class. Josh Sapp is ranked as the No. 78 player at his position.
Diamond in the rough for Clemson football: Wade Woodaz, S (Tampa, FL)
When it comes to a diamond in the rough, the Tigers may have one in safety Wade Woodaz. The three-star recruit is ranked 900th nationally by the 247 Sports Composite. Woodaz received offers from 28 other schools, including the likes of Louisville and Iowa, before ultimately committing to Dabo Swinney’s program. This season at Jesuit High School, Woodaz recorded 82 total tackles (50 solo), two interceptions and one sack, per MaxPreps.
Where does Clemson football rank nationally and in the ACC in recruiting?
In terms of nationally, the Tigers are not ranked inside the top 10 recruiting classes. They are ranked 16th-overall in the country, but they are ranked second-overall amongst their ACC counterparts.
Clemson football 2022 recruiting grade: B+
Clemson gets a huge win by getting the best quarterback prospect in the nation. However, they did not have the best recruiting class in the conference. They may not get an A, but a B+ is just as good.
