This Houston Astros trade has aged horribly

Houston Astros fans have been haunted by some questionable trades in the past, but this one really stands above them all. 

While the Houston Astros have been able to record some memorable campaigns in recent years, of course highlighted by winning the 2017 World Series, a trade from 2015 continues to haunt them. No one has forgotten about the deal that brought in Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers.

With Houston making a playoff push that season, the front office went ahead and went after these big names to try and help send things over the top. Instead, they never lived up to the hype and the players the organization sent packing have developed into true studs.

Houston will always regret trading away Josh Hader as part of the 2015 trade

We’re sorry to bring up anxiety for you Astros fans, but the guys who were traded away were Josh Hader, Brett Phillips, Domingo Santana and Adrian Houser. That group collectively stings to see away from the team, but Hader really does stand out.

The hard-throwing lefty has not only blossomed into a top talent, but he’s widely considered one of the best closers in the game. This past season, Hader recorded 34 saves and was voted to the All-Star Game for the third time in his career.

In 58.2 innings of work, Hader allowed only 25 hits and just eight earned runs. Whenever he took the bump for the Brewers, fans could rest easy knowing he was going to take care of business. That’s going to continue for whenever he runs out of the bullpen.

What makes things worse here for Houston is that Gomez, the centerpiece of that trade, hit a lowly .242 for the Astros after he joined the club. The four homers fell way short of what people were hoping for. Yup, this was a bad deal all around for the AL West side.

Oh, and Mike Fiers? He snitched as part of the sign-stealing scandal.
