With Brian Kelly taking over, LSU football is entering into a new era. What will the LSU Tigers’ first recruiting class with Kelly look like?

The LSU Tigers are heading into a new era with Brian Kelly getting the job as head coach in Baton Rouge.

There will be plenty of change going forward and Kelly is looking to make a splash with his first recruiting class. Here’s what that looks like right now.

LSU football top 2022 recruit: Will Campbell, OT (Monroe, LA)

The LSU Tigers have a five-star offensive line recruit ready to go in Will Campbell out of Monroe, LA. Campbell should be able to help anchor LSU’s offensive line throughout his career, helping protect Kelly’s quarterbacks sooner rather than later.

LSU football recruiting strengths and weaknesses

As it stands right now, the Tigers have some very talented recruits in their class. With Campbell and then quarterback Will Howard, the Tigers have some prominent five-stars they’re set to add to their roster. However, they’ll need some more depth in this recruiting class. Having just a handful of recruits in any given recruiting class isn’t a good thing.

Diamond in the rough for LSU football: Mason Tyler, TE (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

The Tigers are getting an interesting tight end prospect in Mason Tyler. He weighs in at a little over 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, making him an intriguing receiving threat. He’s roughly the size of a linebacker, so that’ll make it challenging for most defensive backs to cover.

Where does LSU football rank nationally and in the SEC in recruiting?

According to 247 Sports, Brian Kelly’s first recruiting class at LSU ranks ninth-best in the SEC. That’s not exactly great when comparing against the rest of the conference, but the Tigers currently have the 26th-best recruiting class in the country. That’s not bad at all.

LSU football 2022 recruiting grade: B

All things considered, with all the turnover and turmoil that comes with a new coach, the Tigers currently have a solid class. Will it improve? Maybe. If so, LSU should get a higher grade here. As it stands right now, the Tigers get a B for this recruiting class.
