College recruiting: Texas football recruiting 2022 class grade
By Scott Rogust
The Texas Longhorns are set to have a good week between landing transfer Quinn Ewers and what is set to be a solid National Signing Day.
The Texas Longhorns’ 2021 season started off with such promise under head coach Steve Sarkisian, as they won four of their first five games. But then, they went on a six-game losing streak before ending the season on a high note with a win over the Kansas State Wildcats to end the regular-season.
While the campaign was rough, Longhorns fans have something else to look forward to, besides landing quarterback Quinn Ewers from the transfer portal, and that is National Signing Day on Dec. 15. Texas may very well be one of the biggest winners of the day, according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings.
Texas football top 2022 recruit: Kelvin Banks, OT (Humble, TX)
The Longhorns’ rankings received quite the uptick when the program received the commitment of Humble, TX offensive tackle Kelvin Banks. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman is a five-star recruit and ranked as the second-best tackle in the entire country. This is a huge get for the Longhorns.
Texas football recruiting strengths and weaknesses
When looking at the recruiting class, the program’s greatest strength is at defensive line. Between defensive line and edge rushers, the Longhorns have seven four-star recruits. Cornerback is a bit of a weakness for Texas, however, as they go two hard commits, ranking 20th and 86th at their positions.
Diamond in the rough for Texas football: Anthony Jones, ATH (Henderson, NV)
The Longhorns have a diamond in the rough in athlete Anthony Jones out of Henderson. He is a three-star recruit and ranked 596th in the nation by the 247 Sports Composite. Jones has some tremendous versatility, as he has played the tight end, defensive end and outside linebacker positions at Liberty High School, per MaxPreps.
Where does Texas football rank nationally and in the Big 12 in recruiting?
Texas has got to feel pretty good about their rankings this year. The Longhorns have the fifth-best recruiting class in the entire country. That, and they have bragging rights over their Big 12 rivals, owning the top class in the conference.
Texas football 2022 recruiting grade: A
Texas had a solid recruiting class before they got Banks to commit. That have the one five-star recruit alongside 16 four-star prospects. Considering their high national ranking by 247 Sports, the Longhorns earn an A from us.
