Deion Sanders gets No. 1 recruit Travis Hunter to flip from Florida State to Jackson State.

On Early Signing Day, Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders was able to get No. 1 overall recruit in the 2022 class Travis Hunter to flip from Florida State in a total shocker.

Hunter had long been committed to Sanders’ alma mater. The superstar cornerback out of Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia opted to go to play for Coach Prime at his HBCU than going to the college football blue-blood down in Tallahassee. Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell has to be losing his mind over this. This is by far the craziest development in recruiting in a generation.

If getting the top recruit in the country to flip from Florida State to Jackson State does not signify Sanders’ serious candidacy as a Power Five head coach down the line, nothing will.

Jackson State football recruiting: Travis Hunter changes everything

While Sanders is the greatest cover corner in the history of football, Hunter flipping to Jackson State is about one thing and one thing only: NIL. Hunter is expected to make bank off name, image and likeness as the on-field face of the Jackson State Tigers football program. For him to turn heel on Florida State in the 11th hour to go to Jackson State has flipped college football upside down.

To make matters even worse, Sanders flipped Hunter from his alma mater, Florida State. Yikes.

Though it is great to see HBCUs in the headlines once again, as so many outstanding players have come from these colleges and universities over the years, we are truly in the wild, wild west of NIL. If Sanders can get the top recruit in the country to leave Florida State willingly to go to Jackson State, just imagine what Coach Prime could do at a Power Five, not just leading his alma mater.
