After a disastrous and ugly exit from the Jacksonville Jaguars, there may be some college programs crazy enough to hire him.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were always taking a risk in hiring Urban Meyer as their head coach, considering his exits from his previous college football gigs. There were many that were skeptical that Meyer would last more than a year in the NFL. Sure enough, Meyer did not even last a full season.

On early Thursday morning, Meyer was fired by the Jaguars organization after a 2-11 start and a litany of reported issues that occurred under the head coach. From traveling back with the team after their Week 4 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, to calling his assistants coaches “losers,” to allegedly kicking kicker Josh Lambo during the preseason. But there is much, much more.

While looking back at the controversies that took place with Meyer at the helm at Jacksonville, Ohio State and Florida, there are still going to be college football programs interested in bringing him in as their head coach. Why’s that? He has a winning record in college, and that will entice a program enough to ignore everything else and ultimately hire him.

But who would be crazy enough to hire Meyer?

Texas

We start with a team that was reportedly interested in hiring Meyer before he took the Jaguars job — the Texas Longhorns.

Texas was looking to move on from then-head coach Tom Herman at the end of the 2020 season, and were in discussions with Meyer. But, a report from 247Sports’ Chip Brown noted that Meyer told the university that he was leaning towards not wanting to coach due to health reasons. One month later, Meyer took the Jaguars job.

The Longhorns did move on from Herman, and replaced him with Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. Even though Sarkisian’s first season ended on a disappointing note, the program has one of the top recruiting classes  in 2022, per 247 Sports.

If Sarkisian does not pick up the wins the university and fanbase wants, it would not necessarily be shocking if Texas tries once again to hire Meyer.
